This artwork portrays the social divide among modern cats, a quiet reflection of the inequalities we see in human society. At first glance, it may appear to simply depict cats in daily life, yet beneath the surface lies a deeper commentary on privilege and exclusion.

At the center sits a white cat — a symbol of affluence and comfort. Provided with fish, bags of cat food, and a gleaming collar, it lives in abundance. However, behind an unseen wall, other cats watch from the darkness, their eyes filled with longing and quiet envy. They inhabit a different world — one of hunger, cold, and shadow.

This piece is not merely about the disparity between cats; it reflects the structural inequalities and indifference that persist in human communities as well. Like people, some cats live under the warmth of plenty, while others are left to survive in the unseen corners of society.

The contrast of color deepens this message. Inside, bright hues of blue, vivid red, and yellow illuminate the scene, symbolizing comfort and luxury. Outside, however, only broken walls, old buildings, and graffiti-covered streets remain — a stark landscape that reveals the neglected side of urban life.

Ultimately, this work is a contemplation on coexistence and empathy. It invites viewers to recognize the overlooked lives around us — to see how inequality and compassion coexist in the same city, divided only by a fragile wall.

이 작품은 현대 사회의 고양이들 사이의 빈부격차를 그린 그림이다. 겉으로 보면 단순한 고양이의 일상처럼 보일 수 있지만, 그 안에는 인간 사회의 축소판이 담겨 있다. 중심에 앉은 흰 고양이는 부유함의 상징이다. 의자 위에서 편히 앉아 있으며, 주변에는 생선, 사료 봉지, 반짝이는 목걸이들이 흩어져 있다. 그러나 그 고양이 뒤에는 보이지 않는 벽이 있다. 벽 너머에는 어두운 밤 속에서 그를 바라보는 다른 고양이들이 있다 — 배고픔과 추위, 그리고 부러움 속에서 살아가는 존재들이다.

나는 이 대조를 통해 단순히 ‘고양이들 사이의 불평등’을 보여주고자 한 것이 아니라, 인간 사회 속에서도 반복되는 구조적인 차이와 무관심을 비추고자 했다. 고양이들은 인간과 다를 바 없다. 누군가는 풍요로움 속에 살고, 또 누군가는 그 빛을 바라보며 어둠 속에 남는다.

그 대비는 색채로도 표현된다. 밖의 어둠과 대비되는 안의 밝은 푸른색, 강한 빨강, 노랑은 이 두 세계의 간극을 시각적으로 드러낸다. 안쪽의 색은 화려하고 따뜻하지만, 그 바깥에는 부서진 벽, 낡은 건물, 그래피티로 도배된 벽들만이 존재한다. 그곳은 소외된 공간이자, ‘보이지 않는 존재들’이 살아가는 현실이다.

이 작품은 단순한 비판이 아니라, 공존과 연대의 필요성에 대한 성찰이다. 나는 이 그림을 통해 우리가 무심히 지나치는 생명들, 그리고 그 속에 숨어 있는 불평등의 현실을 마주하게 하고 싶었다.
