This artwork unites two contrasting worlds — the traditional and the modern, the East and the West.
At its center stands a cat, painted in meokmul (traditional Korean ink), chasing a rat that has slipped into the house. The interior is drawn in the chaekgado style, a traditional Korean still-life painting that symbolizes intellect and refinement. The slightly distorted proportions add charm and authenticity, while hanji (Korean paper) on the walls and floors gives warmth and texture. The cat becomes a quiet guardian, protecting the household’s harmony.

Outside the door, however, lies another world. Rendered with watercolor pencils, a European city night unfolds — cold, vibrant, and foreign. One rat darts inside while another escapes into the darkness, blurring the line between two realms.
This contrast embodies cultural transition and coexistence, where the cat and rats act as metaphors for crossing between East and West, tradition and modernity.

Ultimately, the piece reflects on identity, culture, and the flow between worlds. Through the tension and harmony within a single frame, it invites viewers to contemplate how boundaries are not walls of separation, but spaces of transformation and connection.

이 작품은 서로 다른 두 세계—전통과 현대, 동양과 서양—의 만남을 하나의 화면에 담았다.
그 중심에는 먹물로 그린 고양이가 있다. 고양이는 집 안으로 들어온 쥐를 쫓고 있으며, 그 실내는 조선시대의 책가도 형식으로 구성되었다. 다소 비례가 왜곡된 사물들은 당시 회화의 독특한 미감을 보여주며, 지식과 품격을 상징한다.
벽과 바닥에는 한지를 사용하여 따뜻하고 고요한 질감을 더했다. 고양이는 이 공간의 수호자처럼 조화와 질서를 지키려 한다.

반면 문 밖은 전혀 다른 세상이다. 워터컬러 색연필로 표현된 유럽의 밤거리는 차갑고 이질적인 분위기를 자아낸다.
문턱을 사이에 두고, 하나의 쥐는 안으로 들어오려 하고 또 다른 쥐는 밖으로 도망친다. 이 두 세계의 대조는 문화의 이동과 변화를 상징하며,
고양이와 쥐는 그 경계를 오가는 존재로서 전통과 현대, 동양과 서양의 관계를 은유한다.

이 작품은 단순한 공간의 대비를 넘어, 문화의 공존과 정체성의 흐름을 탐구한다.
익숙함과 낯섦, 안정과 혼돈이 한 장면 속에서 교차하며, 그 사이에서 새로운 의미와 조화를 찾아가는 여정을 그린다.
